Preservation
Hall Jazz Band
Saturday,
November 15, 2008 – 8:00 p.m.
The
Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the
venerable music venue located in the heart of
New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band
has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate
the art form of
New Orleans
jazz. The group has hosted many of the earliest jazz pioneers and is
now comprised of Ben Jaffe on tuba, Rickie Monie playing piano, Walter
Payton on bass, Joseph Lastie, Jr. on drums,
Carl Le Blanc playing banjo, Darryl Adams blowing the alto saxophone,
Frederick Lonzo, Frank Demond and Lucien Barbarin
on trombones, Shannon Powell on percussion, Clint
Maedgen singing guest vocals and playing the saxophone, and Ralph Johnson
on clarinet. Together the
group tours the country spreading the gospel of
New Orleans
jazz far and wide.
