The Education Department at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido aims to serve our audiences by offering programs that celebrate the arts, include innovative strategies for using the arts as teaching tools, and inspire people of all ages and cultures.

 

Summer Camps 2014

School’s out for summer! But then what? Don’t let your kids while the days away in front of the TV. Get outside, get active, learn and have fun! The Center’s Education department is hosting five camps this summer that will engage and inspire your child’s imagination and creativity.

Theater Camp – Introduction to Acting (Studio 1)
July 7-July 11, 8:30-11:30am
Ages 9-12

Have you ever dreamed of being on stage? Would you like to learn how to act? If so, join us for an introduction to acting! Through improvisation and character study you will learn how to create believable characters. You’ll learn to use your voice, body, expressions and imagination to take the character off of the page and onto the stage. Then show off your new skill in a performance for your family and friends. $125 for non-members ($100 for second child, any camp but media)

Theater Camp – Perfecting Your Audition (Studio 1)
July 7-July 11, 1pm-5pm
Ages 13-17

Spend the week exploring and building your audition techniques. Learn how to choose a monologue and fine tune it; audition dress and impression; knowing yourself and characters you fit; cold reading and scene study for callbacks. This camp will culminate in a mock audition process with feedback from working actors and directors!

$95 for Center members
$125 for non-members ($100 for second child, any camp but media)

Visual Art Camp A – The Medium is the Message (Studio 2)
July 14-July 18, 8:30am-11:30am
Ages 6-8

Enjoy a week filled with exploration and creativity as we learn to use a variety of art media. Using everything from pencil and charcoal to pastels and paint, you will have the chance to create in the Art Studio as well as outside around the beautiful Center campus. This camp will provide a look at the different techniques needed for each medium, and how the final product changes depending on your choice. Create a beautiful series of work your parents can display with pride!

Visual Arts Camp B – Getting Close to Your Subject (Studio 2)
July 14-July 18, 1pm-5pm
Ages 9-12

Explore the techniques of creating art inspired by your environment. We will look closely at the many examples of flora around the beautiful Center campus, and then you will create your own “masterpiece” modeled after the styles of famous artists. Decide which style appeals to you, and begin to develop your own artistic perspective.

$95 for Center members
$125 for non-members ($100 for second child, any camp but media)

Media Production Camp
Write, direct, film, produce, perform, edit and display your own short production!
