AERO San Diego consists of a community of arts organizations working together to create a culture of arts education. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido has received a Level 3 Seal of Approval from AERO San Diego.

VISITS TO THE CENTER: ART DISCOVERY

Bring your students to explore any combination of the arts offerings below. Programs are available Tuesday-Friday, beginning at 10a.m. Please refer to the fees listed and call the Center Education Department at least two weeks in advance to make your reservation: (760) 839-4173. Refunds will be given up to two weeks before the fieldtrip date upon receipt of a written request minus a $15 processing fee.

Museum Tours

Start your Art Discovery with a 50 minute interactive tour of current Museum exhibitions led by docents trained in Visual Thinking Strategies. Visitors will engage in discussions as they explore the artwork. $20 per class of up to 35 students, larger groups pay a slightly higher fee. One adult admitted free per 10 students. Additional adults pay $5 per person.

Studio Art

Give your students a 50-minute hands-on experience in the Center’s art studio. Students will work on a grade-appropriate art project based on the current exhibitions. $2 per student. A perfect activity to pair with a Museum Tour.

Music for Youth

This one-hour program gets even first timers playing music! Age-appropriate programs and instruments are provided. $4 per student.

Drama Workshop: Beyond Words

Students will learn various theater techniques to explore how to tell stories and create characters. $2 per student.

Dance & Movement Workshop

Get your group moving! This music-inspired workshop teaches how to energize the body. $2 per student.

Learning Garden

Be inspired by the beauty and wonder of nature! Activities range from learning about California natives and vegetable gardening, to plein-air art projects. $2 per student.

Queen Califia's Magical Circle Tour

Escondido public school teachers can take their students on a very special fieldtrip to experience the colorful mosaic work of Niki de Saint Phalle in Kit Carson Park, visit the Center Museum, and work on an art project for the low price of $3.50 per student, all on a free school bus! Museum Adventures at Grape Day Park

Grades K-6

Bring your group for a multi-museum program that is exciting, educational, and value-packed. In one fieldtrip for one low price, visit the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (explore art and create an art project), the Escondido Children’s Museum (learn about science and social science through interactive play), and the Escondido History Center (engage in local history through a tour and activity). $9 per student. 1 adult chaperone per 7 students admitted free. Afterschool Program: Mundo Lindo

Teaching artist Jane LaFazio works with eligible 4th and 5th graders from the Escondido Union School District in this special afterschool scholarship program. Sessions take place on Thursday afternoons and introduce students to a variety of creative art projects. Sponsored by a supportive group of individual donors. My Story: Literacy through the Arts

Grades 4-5

This innovative school outreach program engages 4th and 5th grade students in lessons that combine the arts with academic learning. Fifth Grade Students work with digital photography and sharpen their language arts skills. Fourth Grade Students practice various drama techniques as they deepen their understanding of California history. Final presentation and exhibition opening reception in the Center Theater on March 19, 2011. For information, call (760) 839-4179.

CENTER STAGE: Performances for Youth

Introduce your students to live theater through our weekday matinee performances that connect to a variety of curriculum areas such as history, literature, and music. A standards-based Educators’ Guide is provided to you at no charge and includes pre and post show activities, historical content, and other resources to explore with your students.

Ferdinand the Bull

Based on the beloved children’s book by Munro Leaf, this heartwarming story teaches kids to celebrate each other’s differences. This production for grades K-8 integrates Spanish, flamenco dancing, and original music. Produced by Childsplay of Tempe, Arizona.

Miss Nelson is Missing!

Based on the children’s book by Harry Allard and James Marshall, this lively musical comedy is recommended for grades K-5. Students learn a lesson when their clever teacher masquerades as the infamous Viola Swamp in order to teach them just what a good and fair teacher she is. Produced by California Theatre Center.

TAIKOPROJECT

Discover the power of Taiko as this energetic ensemble weaves traditional and contemporary sounds, taking drumming to a whole new level. These dedicated musicians educate students and have fun advancing this unique art form. This show is geared toward students in grades 4-12.
